PARIS, – A nuclear submarine will be sent to help find the Air France airliner that went missing over the Atlantic, French Defense Minister Herve Morin announced Friday.

French Navy SNA Émeraude/Emerald (S 604) from Rubis Class, Nuclear attack submarines, (French MoD)

Morin said that the vessel would be a nuclear hunter-killer submarine, of which “surveillance equipment” could help to find the black boxes.

A French marine research ship equipped with two non-nuclear mini-submarines was already sent on the way to the Atlantic.

An Air France Airbus A330 flight AF447 with 228 people on board went missing over the Atlantic as it was flying from Rio to Paris Monday. No debris or bodies from the plane had been so far recovered by French and Brazilian forces.

Meanwhile, France launched a manslaughter investigation on whether anyone was responsible for the Air France crash, officials said in a statement. (French MoD/Xinhua)
