Sergeant Rolin Maglangit was seized Friday by communist New People’s Army (NPA) rebels near the southern town of Monkayo on Mindanao island, police said.
His bullet-riddled body was found the following day, provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Ronald Dela Rosa said.
An autopsy showed he sustained 15 gunshot wounds to his back, apparently from automatic rifles fired at a distance, Dela Rosa said.
The NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines which has been waging a 40-year insurgency against government, has stepped up its attacks in recent weeks.
Last week 10 rebels, three soldiers and a policeman were killed in separate clashes. (AFP)
